Don't Dream It's Over
...and I am still dreaming! Yesterday's concert with Crowded House at the Villa Maria Estate Winery was fantastic!
People had brought their camping chairs, cooler bags, sunglasses and sunhats and made themselves comfortable in front of the stage. The venue is fabulous. I have never been to a concert at a vinyard before. At the vinyard they were selling wine (of course! doh!) and food, so everyone could meet the needs from both tastebuds and empty stomachs.
The weather was beautiful. Sun, happy concert goers, a bit of wine and food. What more could we wish for?
Music maybe?
...which we got as well. Crowded House is a band I got to know in the end of the 80's when "Don't Dream It's Over" was played repeatbly over the radio. I didn't hear more from them over the years - until I met my husband who had most of the albums from this band.
It was good fun to see the band live. The band's members have changed over the years for various reasons, but Neil Finn (vocals and songwriter) and Nick Seymour (guitar) are still in it together. The new members are Mark Hart (keyboard and guitar) and Matt Sherrod (drums).

A trip down memory lane
Last night we went to A-ha's farewell concert. After 25 years as a band it was time to call it a quit.
Their most famous song "Take On Me" ended up as no. 1 on the Billboard chart in the US in 1985. In 1987 they had their first concert in Norway - here in Kristiansand. I guess it must have been a bit strange for the audience that saw them 23 years ago to see them again after all these years.

Morten Abel with Tore Tang
It's time you get to hear our good, old pub song called Tore Tang. It is about an old man living by himself, old, poor and lonely. The song is sad, but makes everyone sing along when it is played. The song was made by the band Mods where Morten Abel was a vocalist way back in 1981.

Flash Mob Dance : Madcon : Glow
Here is Norwegian band Madcon who made a special song called "Glow" for the intermission at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Probably the best song during the whole song contest...haha
A film crew travelled around Europe to arrange a "Flash Mob Dance" where people get asked to meet a certain place to learn dance moves and then they make a music video of it.
The last time I saw this was Black Eyed Peas at a Oprah show.
Very cool! Well done! Hamburg and Dublin rocks!
By the way, Germany won the Eurovision this year.

A-ha's farwell tour
This may not be of interest for you, but I thought I would write about it anyway as this is their farewell tour in Europe and some of you may be here to reach a concert during the summer and autumn months.
A-ha is traveling around Europe, Japan and Russia performing their farewell concerts in several cities after 25 years as a band. How sad... On the 11th of September they will be here in Kristiansand and I really hope we are here to see it.

Eurovision 2010
You may have heard about Eurovision Song Contest...or maybe not. This is a song contest for several European countries where the competition is just as much about the costumes, dancing techniques and looks as it is about the song itself. Sometimes it is just about shocking people. Watch Lordi below and you will understand what I mean.
In younger years I remember sitting in front of the TV with a simple tape recorder, recording every song while the family were talking in the background. We didn't have a lot to be proud of as we never won and was on the bottom of the result list several times and even got 0 points four times. The Swedes however had all the good songs. Remember ABBA with "Waterloo" in 1974?
Time for a little medley for those of you that are curious...
First of all. This is my childhood heroes. Jan Teigen and Anita Skorgan was competing in several Eurovision shows, but never won. I don't know why. Both had (and have) beautiful voices and really good songs. Here is one called "Friendly". PS: This is not from a Eurovision show, but too good to leave out....

Stein Roger Sørdal : Moving Clouds
I thought I would share a song from Stein Roger Sørdal's (local hero from Kristiansand) album "In Fort Knox with a Penny" (2007) . He is a guitar player, vocalist and songwriter in his own band and also in the band Angel Motel. He also had Thursday concerts with other musicians in Kristiansand during the summer months last year. Yey! Well, he did last year anyway. I hope it will be repeated this year.

The band has changed their type of musical genre several times during the years. Stein Roger was a guitar player and vocalist in the band for many years.

Happy Friday - again! Time for some proper old Norwegian rock - this time in Norwegian! This song is close to a national anthem back home. Everyone knows it, everyone can sing the chorus and it is a proper party song.
Dum Dum Boys started up in 1985, but had been playing in another band called "Wannskrækk" since the late 70's. The band name came from an Iggy Pop album called "Idiot" (1977).
The guitar riffs in the beginning of the song are world famous in Norway! The song is about stress and nagging and a bit of funny song to sing when you just have had enough! Do not be surprised if others join in if you are starting singing the chorus!
This song was on the album "Splitter Pine" which was released in 1989. The band is still releasing new albums and having concerts around the country. The last single is called "Snø på Mars", released in 2009.
Today the band consist of : Per Øyvind "Prepple" Houmb, Kjartan Kristiansen, Aslak Dørum and Sola Jonsen.

Sivert Høyem : Moon Landing
It's time for some more music. It's Monday. We need to cheer up. On behalf of my friend Linda, I want to introduce you to Sivert Høyem, former vocalist of the band Madrugada. This is one of her favorites and that was a good enough reason to add it to the blog. The song is from the album "Moon Landing", released in 2009.
Co-producer Cato Salsa Thomassen is on the guitar. You get too see a bit from Norway as well. Do you like the cabin?
I have always thought about this guy's music as melancholic and gloomy (I guess these words have the same meaning, but together they are kind of double trouble...ha!). I have to admit that these two songs are far from gloomy so maybe his old band played that kind of music?
Below song is from the same album and is called "Belorado". Most of the video was filmed on a rooftop in downtown Oslo in November 2009. Looks cold....

Thought this was a very appropriate title for the time of the year.
You may have heard about today's band, A-ha, known from the 80's "Take On Me".
I have heard it on the radio here, so I know it got this far...
Always young looking, Morten Harket (now 50) is singing, Magne Furuholmen on keyboard and Pål Waaktaar-Savoy on guitar. This is from a concert in Oslo in 2001.
Let's listen to one of the oldies as well. This is "Stay on these roads"....
He obviously like his leather pants! :0)

New idea from me! I want to introduce some Norwegian and Scandinavian music for you to listen to.
It is sad to see that we are missing out on each other's music due to the distances between our countries.
The first one is an easy listening song called "Ambitions". It is sung in English so no guessing what it is about this time.
The band is called Donkeyboy and the song is written, directed and cut by Kristoffer Borgli. http://www.kristofferborgli/. Donkeyboy is a pop band from Drammen, Norway, formed in 2005. The band consists of Cato Sundberg (vocals, rhythm guitar) Kent Sundberg (synth, backing vocals) Peter Michelsen (guitar, backing vocals), Thomas Drabløs (drums), and Alexander Garborg Ågedal (bass guitar). Linnea Dale is a guest vocalist on "Ambitions". The song was released in 2009.
On the Norwegian page, music from New Zealand will be introduced. Let's share! :0)
