K-road

A couple of weeks back I visited my hairdresser angel Sarah in Upper Queen Street. I feel so lucky to have found her as she is a wizard with the scissors and the colors. After three hours of pampering it was time for lunch and sightseeing.

Upper Queen Street is just a short walk from K-road (or the mouthful Karangahape Road), an alternative area with colorful gift shops at daytime and a very colorful party area at nighttime.

St. Kevin's Arcade
St. Kevin's Cafe - smoothie heaven!

From St. Kevin's Arcade to Myers Park - short cut to Queen Street

My usual stop in K-road is St. Kevin's Arcade and the St. Kevin's Cafe. They have lovely smoothies and by the time you have reached the Arcade (especially if you have walked up all Queen Street to get there), you really need a top up of berries and vitamins. The Arcade has several second hand shops. I am not really into second hand shops, but they kind of fit in here so well that a bit of window shopping is tempting.

Another place to do some "research" is The 3rd Eye. I wrote a little article about it in March last year. You can read about it here. The 3rd Eye is a colorful shop with a very good selection of statement jewellery, silk clothes, bags and interior. It's easy to stay there for hours and the feeling of being in another country is very present. The smell of incense is strong even outside the shop, so this is a good way to find it.

This meets you in the entrance. Are you able to walk past this? :)

This is a great place to visit while in Auckland. Heaps to look at (great people watching place) and funny little shops. I am sure you will find something!
